Oil price slides to 20-month low

Oil prices have fallen to their lowest levels since the beginning of 2007, amid fears over lower energy demand and worsening economic prospects

Excerpt:

US light sweet crude fell by $2.60 to $56.73 a barrel in New York before rebounding to $56.92. Brent crude dropped $2.27 to $53.44 a barrel.

Oil prices have fallen about 60% after peaking at $147.27 a barrel in July.

Oil price goes below $50 a barrel

Oil prices have fallen below $50 a barrel for the first time since May 2005 amid fears of a recession and expectations that demand will drop.
