Adverbs can describe adjectives or other adverbs.  Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs.  Adverbs tell:

 

when

where

how

To what extent

 

Adverbs often end in &quot;ly&quot;, but not always.  Also, words that end with the &quot; n't &quot;

 are always a part of a word and is considered an adverb. 

 

 Examples:

 

couldn't

wasn't 

didn't 

 

Learn that these words are always adverbs:

Distinguishing Adjectives from pronouns

 

The following kinds of words, which may normally be called nouns and pronouns can function as adjectives.

 

Nouns:  Billy's bicycle

Possesive Pronouns: my, your, his, her, its, our their

Demonstrative Pronouns: this, that, these, those

Indefinite Pronouns: each, either, neither, one, some, any, all, most, both, few, several, man

Relative Pronouns: whose, which
