Unresolved issue- 1980 Time Capsule

Dear Classmates,

In 1980, our graduating class, did a Time Capsule that was supposed to be opened; I believe in the year 2000. From what information I have gleaned from a few other classmates, the school, failed the agreement to open the Capsule, with the Class of 2000. Our thirty year (30) reunion date, is fast approaching. Wouldn't it be nice, if we were able to open the Time Capsule with the Class of 2010, as a part of our reunion efforts?

Here is my sugesstion.

Please write to the Memphis City School Council, and request that this Time Capsule be opened, in 2010. It is my understanding that funds were supposed to have been set aside, for this opening event. If the funds are not availale, we should find out the cost of opening the Time Capsule, and each give a little something towards it.

I really believe, that our messages, that were encapsulated, are an important part of our history, as students of Treadwell High School, and that this event may be helpful to those who are now becoming graduates, of our Alma Matre. !980, was a great year, and we had a lot of fond memories of Treadwell, as well as our own aspirations for our future.

If you are in agreement, please send letters, to the Board of Eduation, Treadwell HS and any news media, that you think would be willing to run our story. Maybe, someone can start a petition, that we can also present to our present Mayor, and former Superintendent, Willie Herenton.

Please, let's all get on board, and request that this Time Capsule, be honored and opened. Maybe, we can even have this bit of History, displayed at the Civil Rights Museum, as a Class of intergrated Memphis students, that were looking forward to our future.
